Currently, NUNAV Navigation does not offer the possibility to load and save map material on the device. The navigation processes traffic data in real time in order to provide each user of our collaborative routing with the fastest route.
To ensure that you always have the most up-to-date map data, NUNAV Navigation does not use offline maps, but adapts the map data used individually to your user behavior. We adjust the map data at regular intervals (approx. every 14 days). For this purpose, we process the data from OSM for map generation and routing.
Currently, the NUNAV navigation uses a so-called "environment caching". This means that only the environment data of your last destinations are stored. After the maximum capacity of 200 MB is exceeded, the environment data of the "least visited destinations" are released for the environment data of new destinations. This way you only load the map material you really need and at the same time you can always navigate with the current map.
Due to this "environment caching", the data consumption for shorter or recurring routes (such as your way to work) is of course significantly lower than if you drive from Hamburg to Munich today and from Munich to Berlin tomorrow. On these routes, NUNAV then naturally loads more real-time data, as more map material is required.
However, complete offline use will not be possible, as this would contradict our approach to connected driving. You can find out more about collaborative routing and AI-based swarm intelligence here.
